FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGY OCTOBER 2026
Date: [10th, October 2026]
Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm]
Theme: Preparing Young People for an AI-Driven World
Artificial Intelligence is redefining the future at an unprecedented pace. It is changing how we learn, work, create, communicate, and solve problems, while opening new opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.
For young people, AI is more than a technological advancement; it will shape the careers they pursue, the businesses they build, and the societies they lead. Yet as access to AI grows, so does the responsibility to use it wisely.
Questions around ethics, privacy, misinformation, cybersecurity, bias, transparency, and accountability are no longer reserved for policymakers or technology companies. They are becoming everyday realities for young people who are already using AI in classrooms, workplaces, and businesses.
From June to July, Space Shift, in collaboration with the AI & STEM Partnership Hub and DevGet Learning delivered an AI Governance Bootcamp to equip young people with a deeper understanding of responsible AI and the opportunities, risks, and responsibilities shaping its future.
Future of Technology October 2026 builds on this journey by celebrating the learning and milestones achieved by the bootcamp participants while bringing together young people, industry, academia, civil society, government and development partners for a broader conversation on
responsible AI. The event will also mark the launch of the next AI Governance Bootcamp, creating an opportunity for more young people to continue building the knowledge and skills needed to engage with AI responsibly.
The event will explore one defining question:
“How do we prepare a generation that is not only AI-ready, but
responsible enough to shape its future?”
Why This Conversation Matters
Across the world, governments, businesses, and educational institutions are investing heavily in Artificial Intelligence. Young people are embracing these technologies at an extraordinary pace, using AI to study, launch businesses, create content, solve problems, and improve productivity.
However, AI is also transforming the nature of digital risk. The rise of AI-generated misinformation, deepfakes, identity fraud, automated phishing, and sophisticated cyberattacks is making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between what is authentic and what is artificially generated, as trust is becoming one of the most valuable assets in the digital age.
In Kenya, this challenge is already evident, leading to the Communications Authority of Kenya reporting over 3.3 billion cyber threat events between January and March 2026, noting that cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting Artificial Intelligence to automate phishing attacks and social engineering campaigns. In response, the Authority has expanded youth-focused cybersecurity programmes and AI learning initiatives to strengthen national digital resilience. These developments highlight an important shift within the region.
Preparing young people for the future can no longer focus solely on digital literacy or technical skills, but it must also include ethical decision-making, responsible innovation, digital trust, cybersecurity awareness, and an understanding of how AI should be developed and used in ways that benefit society.
The Dialogue
This event is designed as a collaborative platform that goes beyond conversations about how to use AI and focuses on using it responsibly. The dialogue will convene diverse voices from across the AI ecosystem, including policymakers, researchers, educators, technology leaders, entrepreneurs, youth innovators, cybersecurity experts, and development partners, to explore both the opportunities and responsibilities that accompany Artificial Intelligence.
The programme will combine keynote conversations, panel discussions, interactive dialogue sessions, and networking opportunities to encourage meaningful exchange, practical learning, and cross-sector collaboration. But most importantly, we seek to connect policy with practice, ensuring that young people are not only informed about AI but are empowered to contribute to the conversations shaping its future.
Objectives
This event aims to:
Equip young people with a deeper understanding of responsible AI, digital trust, and ethical technology.
Promote dialogue on the opportunities and societal implications of Artificial Intelligence.
Strengthen collaboration between youth, industry, government, academia, and civil society.
Inspire responsible innovation by encouraging young people to develop AI solutions that are ethical, inclusive, and human-centred.
Build a community of partners committed to advancing responsible AI across Africa.
Expected Outcomes
By the end of the forum, this event seeks to achieve the following:
Increased awareness of responsible AI among young people.
Stronger partnerships between organizations working across AI, digital literacy, and cybersecurity.
Greater youth participation in conversations on AI ethics, governance, and innovation.
A shared commitment to advancing AI that is inclusive, ethical, and beneficial to society.
The establishment of the next cohort of the AI Governance Bootcamp.
Partnership Invitation:
Artificial Intelligence will influence every sector of society, further preparing young people to navigate this future, and it cannot be the responsibility of a single institution.
We invite tech companies and other private-sector organizations, civil society,
innovation hubs, government institutions, academia, and development partners to collaborate to create a platform that equips young people with the knowledge, networks, and leadership required to thrive in an AI-driven world.
By becoming a strategic partner, your organization will contribute to a national conversation that places young people at the centre of responsible AI while demonstrating a shared commitment to ethical innovation, digital trust, and inclusive development.
Together, we have an opportunity to ensure that the next generation is not only prepared for the future of Artificial Intelligence, but empowered to shape it responsibly.
